Is it going to be quicker to boot into 250GB first, and uninstall software, or copy it over, and uninstall it once I've got it on the SSD? There is quite a bit of software on the 250GB drive which is out of date, and could be uninstalled. So I'm also looking at ways to speed up the transfer. It was painfully slow, despite only transferring 220GB - like a day and a half. It was connected via Firewire 800 (the USB enclosure on drive has stopped working) into iMac, then I used SuperDuper! to copy the clone to the T5, which is also connected to iMac (with USB). Here is the summary of the first attempt.

Then I will format the T5 as APFS Guid, and clone over the 250GB drive.įormat the T5 as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Guid, copy over the 250GB clone, boot into T5, and update to Mojave, which should retrospectively change the T5 to APFS? Should I boot into the 250GB drive, update to Mojave first (I believe in installing Mojave, it will convert the 250GB drive to APFS). I still plan to do development on both systems, but want the option of having the repository on both system also. My plan is to eventually make the T5 my permanent startup disk for my iMac late 2013 (Fusion drive). It appears that in earlier versions of Xcode it was possible to create a clone on another Mac, but right now I only see the option to checkout a project on a remote system. Before I start again, I thought I would ask some questions first, as have some other queries. So I can't select it to be my permanent startup disk. Long story short, I tried to do this at the weekend, and while I've made bootable clones before, I forgot the important step of making it GUID partition. I want to upgrade the OS to Mojave but no further, as the software I need is 32 bit.

I need some software on there, as I no longer have the software disks to install again and the software is not able to be downloaded any more. Coming to macOS Ventura, iOS 16, and iPadOS 16 'later this year,' Freeform is a brand new app that acts as a multi-user collaboration tool, like a graphical version of Google Docs. Use Software Update available on the Apple menu to check that you have the most up-to-date version of Java 6 for your Mac.
